Roman centurions' protest

Since 1994, that about 40 "roman centurions" stand in and around the Colosseum, selling their image to those tourists, who are willing to take a shot of Rome as it was in the ancient times.
La Stampa - Centurions' protest
In March, the newly elected superintendent of roman archaeological heritage notified the municipality that archaeological restraints
forbid their unauthorized presence in the area.
Gianni Alemanno, mayor of Rome, has tried to find a compromise by including the centurions under the category of street artists, and consequently under the regulations that apply to them. But the majority of his supporters rejected it, at least the part concerning their presence inside the archaeological sites. As a consequence, protests have been raised. Yesterday the Colosseum has been closed to visitors, since two centurions reached its second arcade, threatening to commit suicide.
The mayor's position remains stiff: either the centurions agree to follow the rules, or they have to leave.
The debate is still open.
