Coromandel carries only 26 seats, and is a very
particular place. Katia, the owner has collected different pieces of furniture from web auctions and from all over the world, and has mixed them in a very pleasant and refined way.
Customers are provided with a choice among two selected menus: a set one at 35 euros, and a "surprise" menu at 55 euros. But, if required, the chef can obviously change a course.
We decided to avoid surprises, and that's what we had.
An amuse-gueule consisting of ravioli filled with burrata.
But do not expect the traditional one... Its ingredients were served separately on the same dish (eggplant, fried mozzarella and tomato sorbet).
A hamburger (instead of the suggested raw meat) with crème fraiche and spinaches.
And I must say that the quality of the meat was superb.
And dulcis in fundo...coppa del nonno!
This was not part of the menu, but a personal choice of mine. And was delicious!
Cream flavored with coffee, just like the ice-cream, but much better.
I must confess, at the moment I am not so impressed as I expected to be, after all the good critics I have lately read. The courses' presentation is poor, the service is not always accurate, the set menu lacks of balance. But I consider quite premature judging a just opened restaurant, so I look at its potential more than at anything else, and Coromandel has surely a good one. Let's wait a while then, and see what measures will be undertaken. I promise...I'll be back in autumn :)
