After a week spent in bed, fighting against a horrible flu, I finally got the best of it just before the weekend started.
And what better than meeting a couple of friends and recovering all my energies with a nice brunch at the Bakery House?
This cosy little spot is located in the so-called Quartiere Trieste, a residential area of great architectural interest, on which I recently wrote a post.
It goes without saying that the place was more than crowded, but this time I had a table reserved, so we skipped the queue.
Unfortunately, as a welcome, we were told that we had to free the table in an hour, since "many other people are waiting to be seated".
Would you have reacted as I did? Despite the growing disappointment I felt (years ago I would have walked out and never stepped in again), I kindly replied we would have made our best (I even smiled!), and we sat determined to leave the chair only when it would have been suitable to us. It has been a great pleasure to realize that the time I've spent at reading books about buddhism has been well invested.
The list on the menu can satisfy each and every request: from bagels to muffins, from pancakes to granola yoghurt; everything you might want and more!
And by such a wide variety of possible solutions, I got totally lost. So, just to honor New York, I ordered a Manhattan Plate, namely a ham and cheese omelette served with mixed salad. Although each course includes American coffee and orange juice, I opted for a nice warm local cappuccino
while my friends, both survived to a sumptuous dinner the night before, ordered pancakes and fruit.
The food was perfect: tasty, fresh and well presented.
Besides the inappropriate welcome, the service too needs some adjustments. Definitely.
But nonetheless, I've had a very pleasant time at the Bakery House!
P.s. By noon -45 minutes after our arrival- most of the people were gone and no one bothered us anymore. :)
