But as I came to know that a Helmut Newton's photo exhibition was being hosted at Palazzo delle Esposizioni, I couldn't avoid to plan a visit. Immediately!
My stubbornness did not care whether the day I chose was the ideal one. And it wasn't, of course. The new Pope was going to hold his first Mass; thousand of people were participating to the annual roman marathon; most part of the city was closed to car traffic!
I had to park quite far away, but I made it. I left my car in the area around Circo Massimo,
which is full of beautiful parks
and of amazing historical sites. I "circumnavigated" part of the Colosseo, where the marathon finish line was set,
The building itself is so beautiful: I love its inside stairs
and the colors of the rooms hosting the exhibition, called: Helmut Newton. White Women, Sleepless Nights, Big Nudes.
More than 200 photographs, taken by the prolific German artist in the 70s and in the 80s, are hanging on the colorful walls of the Palazzo. His love for women is unexceptionable as well as his ability of portraying much more than just a fashion shoot. In fact, an entire world is revealed behind each pic...
Once out, I walked back the same streets and reached the Colosseo.
While most runners were about to end the marathon,
I had a Mariages Frères tea and a delicious crème brûlée (topped with grapefruit and toasted pistachios, yum!) at the close by Caffé Propaganda in Via Claudia.
